Please note that transportation between the two conference sites is not included in your registration fees. Attendees are responsible for arranging their own transportation. If required, attendees will be offered assistance arranging transportation by taxi between the conference hotels and the venue, but are responsible for covering the cost themselves. We estimate the cost per taxi to be approximately R264.5 (CAD $22.70), based on taxifarefinder.com, which may be shared by as many as 4 people in each vehicle. Travel time is estimated to be around 30 minutes.

Registration & Conference Terms and Procedures

  1. Online Payment of Fees - Online payment can be made via the PayPal secure registration form with Visa or MasterCard. You do not need a PayPal account to pay online (see below).

  2. *No Longer Available: February 14th, 2017* Payment by Cheque - If you would like to pay by cheque, please complete the online registration form and select the 'Pay by Cheque' option on the payment page. An invoice will be emailed to you within 2 business days of your registration (If you do not receive your invoice please check your e-mail accounts spam or junk folder to ensure the message was not filtered. If the message was filtered, you may find an option to 'Mark as good' or 'Add sender'. This will aid in receiving future emails from us). You must include a copy of this invoice with your cheque, otherwise you will be charged a $5.00 processing fee. All cheques must be made out to Dalhousie University, Resilience Research Centre and MUST be in CANADIAN funds drawn from a Canadian bank. Please ensure the registrant's name is marked clearly on the cheque. Send the cheque and a copy of your registration invoice to:

  3. Payment by Wire Transfer - If you would like to pay by wire transfer, please complete the online registration form and select the 'Pay by Wire Transfer' option on the payment page. An invoice with wire transfer information will be emailed to you within 2 business days of your registration (If you do not receive your invoice please check your e-mail accounts spam or junk folder to ensure the message was not filtered. If the message was filtered, you may find an option to 'Mark as good' or 'Add sender'. This will aid in receiving future emails from us). Please note that a processing fee of CAD $8.50 will be applied for all wire transfer payments. All bank charges associated with the wire transfer (sending & receiving) are the responsibility of the registrant.  Wire transfer payments can only be accepted on first time payments. Should any payment amount remain or additional items be added, the remaining balance must be paid at the Registration Desk upon arrival on day one. In order to qualify for the Early Bird Registration rate your wire transfer payment must reach us by April 15th, 2017.
  4. *No Longer Available: January 27th, 2017* Payment by e-Transfer – If you are a resident of Africa and wish to pay by e-Transfer, please complete the online registration form and select the 'Pay by e-Transfer' option on the payment page.  An invoice with e-Transfer information will be emailed to you within 2 business days of your registration (If you do not receive your invoice please check your e-mail accounts spam or junk folder to ensure the message was not filtered. If the message was filtered, you may find an option to 'Mark as good' or 'Add sender'. This will aid in receiving future emails from us). Please note that the ZAR rate provided on your invoice will be based upon the exchange rate of ZAR to Canadian Dollar posted on the date of your registration on www.oanda.com . In order to qualify for the Early Bird Registration rate your e-Transfer payment must reach us by April 15th, 2017.
  5. Registration Confirmation – When you register and pay via PayPal/Credit Card you will receive an automatic receipt via email to confirm your registration.  If you are paying by cheque, wire transfer or e-Transfer (for African Residents only) your registration is not complete until we receive your payment.  Once your payment is received, you will receive a confirmation email and a receipt (If you do not receive your invoice please check your e-mail accounts spam or junk folder to ensure the message was not filtered. If the message was filtered, you may find an option to 'Mark as good' or 'Add sender'. This will aid in receiving future emails from us). 
  6. Completed Registration - Registrations will only be considered complete when full payment is received by the Resilience Research Centre. The option to pay by Cheque or Wire Transfer will end on May 15th, 2017 at 12pm AST.  After this date, payments by PayPal/Credit Card or e-Transfer (for African Residents only) will be the only method of registration payment.
  7. Cancellation Policy - Registration cancellations or revisions must be submitted in writing by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and must be received by May 15th, 2017 at 12pm AST. For cancellations, only 50% of the registration fee will be refunded. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received after May 15th, 2017 at 12pm AST. Please contact Amber Raja at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to arrange a cancellation or discuss revisions.  If you don’t attend the Conference and have paid your registration fee, you will not be refunded. Please remember that canceling your registration does not automatically cancel your hotel and travel arrangements. Individuals are responsible for canceling their own hotel and travel reservations. 
  8. Student Registration - Students will receive a discounted price for the conference. You MUST present a valid student ID or confirmation of enrollment for the 2017/2018 academic year upon arrival at the Registration Desk. Registrants who have registered at the student rate but are not able to show proof of student status will have to pay the difference between the Student Registration Rate and Full Price Regular Registration Rate which is $605 CDN, upon arrival at the Registration Desk.
  9. Letters of Invitation to the Conference - A letter of invitation is issued solely for the purpose of assisting participants with visa applications and/or to obtain funding for their attendance at the conference. Such a letter does not imply any financial obligation on the part of the conference organizers. If you require a letter of invitation, please check off the box requesting a letter in the registrations form. Please note that your registration must be complete and paid in full before an invitation letter will be issued.   Please visit the Department of Home Affairs, Republic of South Africa website at http://www.dha.gov.za/ to determine if you will require a visa to enter South Africa.  Please note that it can take up to 90 days for a visa to be processed.  Therefore, we will not be issuing Letters of Invitation after March 15th, 2017.  If you apply for a visa before March 15th, 2017 and your entry is denied, we will refund your full registration fee amount.  If you chose to apply for a visa after the March 15th, 2017 deadline and your entry is denied or your visa does not get processed in time, we will not refund your registration fee.
